Dr. Ford's dissertation study, for his second earned doctorate, published by University Press of America, focused on New Testament eschatology. A scholarly interpretation of the Book of Revelation accounted for a significant portion of that treatise.

"Adventist scholars in general do not write on the prophecies of the Bible's last book when they write for non-Adventist journals or publishing houses. In recent decades there has also been much re-thinking regarding the Apocalypse by Adventist teachers and preachers," Ford states. In support of this he cites suggestions for new approaches to understanding the Apocalypse made by Dr. Kenneth Strand in various books and articles. "Nowadays, it is quite rare for the Adventist pulpit to set forth the conclusions of Uriah Smith as contemporary positions of the Church," Dr. Ford contends.

Our January speaker believes that Christ, His gospel and His cross are the key to Revelation. He proposes to illustrate this from various chapters from the final book of the Canon.

Dr. Desmond Ford last met with the San Diego Chapter of the Association of Adventist FORUMS in October of 1981. It would be a gross understatement to suggest that much has happened in Adventism since that date!

A native of Australia, Dr. Ford completed the ministerial course at Avondale. He has two earned doctorates, one in 1960 from MSU, the other from Manchester University in 1972.

He served as a pastor, evangelist and colporteur before being requested to assume the leadership of the Bible Department at Avondale where he served as chairperson of the Department of Theology from 1961 to 1978. From September, 1977, till December, 1979, he was guest lecturer at Pacific Union College.

Currently, he is president of Good News Unlimited. This parachurch ministry presents radio messages throughout North America, distributes magazines and audio cassettes to over 60 countries, and conducts seminars in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Des is a member of the PUC Seventh-day Adventist Church.
