ABOUT THE PRESENTER:

 

Dr. Gilbert Valentine is a Professor of Leadership and Administration at La Sierra University. His pastoral career has involved varied roles in congregational and conference youth leadership settings in New Zealand and Australia. Mission service took him to teaching and senior administrative positions in Adventist higher education in Pakistan, England and Thailand in addition to his service in Australia and in his homeland, New Zealand. He has written extensively in the area of Adventist history and Ellen White studies and is published regularly in Spectrum in these topics. He is the author of W. W. Prescott: Forgotten Giant of Adventism’s Second Generation (2005); The Struggle for the Prophetic Heritage (2006), a book on the history of the White Estate; and The Prophet and the Presidents (2011), a study of the political influence of Ellen White. In 2014 he co-edited with Woody Whidden, a Festschrift for George Knight entitled Adventist Maverick. Gil is married to Kendra Haloviak Valentine and lives in Riverside where he enjoys cycling around Lake Mathews and the citrus groves in his neighborhood.

 

ABOUT THE SUBJECT:

 

In his Forum lecture, Valentine will explore a central thesis of his book The Prophet and the Presidents, which is a study of the influence of Ellen White on the politics of the early Adventist Church.
